The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) 187 visa is a permanent sponsored visa which enables Australian employers within remote, regional or slow population growth parts of the country to sponsor foreign skilled workers for permanent residence so as to fill open vacancies in their businesses.
The RSMS visa includes areas in all of Australia except Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne.
If your employer is not located in a regional area, this visa option may not suit your circumstances and you will need to apply under the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa or the Temporary Work Skilled visa (457 visa).
There are three separate pathways or streams for the RSMS 187 visa. Sponsor must nominate the applicant in one of the three streams and meet the requirements of that stream.
1.Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream - If you worked for at least two out of the previous three years (before the nomination is made) in the same position your employer nominated you for while you held your subclass 457 visa as the primary visa holder. You should be under the age of 50, if you are applying under TRT stream. Your employer should nominate you for a permanent position under this stream, and the nomination has been approved.
2.Direct Entry (DE) Stream - If you have never worked in Australia before, have only worked in Australia for a short period, do not qualify for the Temporary Residence Transition stream or your nominating employer has nominated you under the Direct Entry stream, you must apply for your RSMS 187 permanent visa under the Direct Entry stream. You should be under the age of 45, if you are applying under DE stream
3.Labour Agreement Stream - You might be able to get this visa under the Agreement stream if you are being sponsored by an employer through a labour agreement.
You must meet the health and character requirements in either of the stream.
You can include your partner, your child/step-child or your partner’s child/step-childin your visa application at the time of lodgement:
You can be in or outside Australia when you apply.
